I am on s/c and usually use Sodium Chloride to dilute, when I got my repeat the pharmacy gave me water for injection but its labelled sodium! Is it ok to use the water or does it have to be Saline?

Diluting Bricanyl
Can't give you a yes or no, but saline is used to refer to a sterile solution of sodium chloride (salt in water)
hi barnsey,
i would say no,
i dont normally dilute my bricanyl, at all, but if i do i use saline,
as a student a collegue and i were teaching a patient to give himself s/c insuline, and as we didnt know if we could do it ourselves, we tried, our mistake was with using water for injections not saline, it was agony!!
so i would go back to the chemist and inform them that they may have made an error and get it sorted,

I'd have to check with a pharmacist myself to see if you could use water for injections rather than saline. That aside though, if you've been given something that is clearly different from its label - take it back to the pharmacy, as it appears to have been a dispensing error.
