I have a GCSE exam soon (modules). Does anyone know if inhalers are allowed in because last time i sat through a whole exam when i really needed my inhaler (really badly!!!). I don't want to get in trouble for taking it in. Do you guys take yours in????

Yes they are allowed in-you cannot be denied medication if you need it. It is very possible that the invigilator will check your inhaler at the door of the exam room, to see that you haven't written all your notes on the cannister or stashed a little slip of paper with them written on down the side of it!

It is also possible that your invigilator may have to keep it on her desk in which case you would have to raise your hand and gasp at her to ask for it!

I know both of these have been put in to practice at my school. I had a pupil who had a pot of prescribed pain killers to take if necessary and hers had to be kept by the invigilaor and given if necessary.

Hi Bobby,

I would say there would be absolutley no problem with bringing your inhalers into your exams with you. If you are worried speak to the exam supervisor to let them know about your situation, don't stress too much and good luck!

I'd follow the advice that chickstar and sus have said.

I would also suggest that since you want full concentration on the exam, and zero percent on worrying that you might have an attack. I'd take the reliever before the exam. Hopefully that will set your mind at ease.

Also, make sure you revise like there's no tomorrow.

Look at every question in the exam for about 10 seconds. If you think you are going to spend ages on it or you don't know your answer, skip it and come back to it later. Start on the easy ones first which will get your head going then you might be able to have a good crack at the harder questions. There's no point spending 10 minutes getting one mark when you could spend 2 minutes getting 5 marks! With proper time management, you won't be adding time to your worries either, that should reduce your chances of having an attack in the first place.

Let us know how you do!

inhalers

hi i am a secondary teachers and my school certainly allows inhalers in. after reading of a similar case to yours i wrote to all 3 major exam boards. AQA were the only ones which answered but they said inhalers should be fine. can i suggest you ask your parents or carers to contact your SENCO at school and make sure that she is aware of your needs. this is even more important this year as most schools now have outside invigilators as it is no longer part of the teachers job. make sure your inhaler is on your exam desk in clear view of the invigilator. oh and good luck with the november modules.

I took mine into the A Level exams so I don't see why not

You should be allowed to take inhalers into exams. Check with your exams officer and if they are unsure get them to phone the exam boards to double check.
