Im desperate to lose some weight . Im following a low fat diet(as normal) but due to stroppy lungs and bone problems exercise is nearly impossible. Im currently on a high dose of pred.
I have recently seen weight loss patches /tablets in Boots/tesco and wondered if anyone know if they are any good -and also safe to take with other meds.
I was seeing a dietitian a while ago but managed to gain weight while seeing her so quit!!
My GP despite being fab in all other areas wont prescribe any meds to help and says im far to high risk to consider weight loss surgery.
Im really starting to get desperate. I have battled in the past with anorexia and bulimia and am so scared that i will end up reverting to old ways but i don't want to put my girls in any ""risk"". Because of my history im not allowed to go to ""diet club s"" not that i could afford them anyway.
I was prescribed Sibutramine (Reductil) a few years ago and I found it made my asthma worse, I became more and more wheezy until I realised that Sibutramine seemed to be making it worse. After I stopped taking it my asthma got back to the way it was.
I think given your medical history it would be better to see a medical professional before starting 'weight loss pills'.
Sorry I havent been able to give you any helpful answers.
Simi.

My sister was once so desperate to lose weight she tried diet pills she had brought over the net, she became quite poorly as she found out after a few weeks on them they contained amphetamine, just wanted to say dont go buying anything thats not been approved by a medical professional.
Can you not try something like weight watchers or slimming world on the net, no need to go to a club then. I once lost 5 stone doing slimming world.
I've just resigned myself to the fact that while on steroids and unable to exercise/work I will be overweight so theres not much I can do apart from watch what I do eat, my doc agrees and just encourages me to eat healthly.
Thanks for your replies.
I wasn't planning on buying anything over the net thats way to risky, i was thinking more the kind of stuff you can buy in Boots/Tescos etc - stuff like Adios, Lipobind etc.
Unfortunately this is the only area my GP is unhelpful in, hence the post , im just at my wits end and finding it hard to deal with the feelings im having towards food and eating.
Hi
I'm also overweight and have been battling with diets all my life. high pred doses have tipped me over the edge. I saw my GP and used to be on orlistat which didn't work for me but has done for other people I know. It stops the fat being digested and deposited, it just gave me fatty loose stools and not much wieght loss. I them tried reductil which I felt worked but after about a week I got a red rash and swollen feet so my GP stopped it. He's now refered me for surgery although I'm high risk for surgery having a BMI over 40 is going to do more damage. I had a hysterectomy under an epidural as a GA was too risky so I'll be happy to do that again for a gastric band.
Talk to your GP/ consultant and get refered to a specialist who can give specific advice for you. The ""diet "" pills in boots etc don't work for people with real obesity problems.
Good luck
Truly x
Hi Truely
My Gp wont refer me to anyone for weight loss surgery .at the moment another surgeon wont even remove a lump i have in my abdomen under epidural so Ive got no hope of anything else and GP wont prescribe any meds cos of previous history. I just feel totally stuck and unsupported by the medical profession(apologies to any drs am only referring to those im in contact with atm professionally!!) TBH im actually quite scared too.
Hello Hopalong
Sorry to hear you are struggling with your weight. I tried the patches from tesco some time ago. I ended up with very sore skin and very little if any, weight loss. I made mysself a comittment to lose one pound a week every week of 2008 - it worked for the first 8 weeks! I've been stuggling with bootsdiets.com. It is easy and helpful if I'm in the right frame of mind unfortunately I'm not often in that happy state! If you keep watching their web site you can often get a half price offer.
Perhaps we could have some kind of support group on this site, would that be allowed?
