I'm due to go into hospital soon for a subcut bricanyl trial. I just really wanted to know what other people's experiences of using this are? There seem to be a lot of Posts on the practicalities of using it but not so much day to day experiences of it?
I use ventolin instead of bricanyl, and sometimes have breaks from it for a few weeks or even months when well.
I suppose I have got used to it and don't notice it there now.
I have a selection of home made pouches / bags for the pump (I currently have a Graseby MS26) which go on a belt (Elastic one or onto trouser belt) hangs along side or under skirt or trousers if wide enough at the hips.
Once it is set up each day, it doesn't usually stop me doing normal ish things. It catches occasionally or if the site is playing up then I notice it, but apart from that, it doesn't worry me.
Perhaps some of the newer users have some more info about what it is like at first.... I have forgotten as it is so long ago now.

I've had the pump for a year now ...
It takes about 15- 30 minutes to set up and change depending on how slow I work and if the cannula needs resisted .... After that nothing else needs done to It for the rest of the day ..... I do my pump in the morning so if I'm well I can make plans for the rest of the day ... My problem was getting a suitable site and tape. It seams I'm a sensitive peach and my skin reacted badly to the tapes the nurses where concerned my skin was reacting to the bricanyl ... Now got the dressings sorted I use my arms for the injection with an extra long giving set so the pump can hide in my pockets , tho the line can catch and snag on things u quickly learn about wrapping the line up ... I forget the pump is there half the times as I was lucky to get a chrono. Thanks to the pump I've been able to get out a but more. ... Hope I haven't bored you too much ..
Thank you both for your replies! These were exactly the type of replies I was looking for. Have you felt that being on sc has improved your asthma!? It seems like quite a commitment - is it really worth it?
Yes it helped more than what the dr's imagined ..before I started on it i was becoming more housebound and being admitted to hospital 1-2 times a month. And Pred was being increased a week after trying to reduce it ... I'm able to get out more and hospital admissions reduced.. Since the winter months have came in my asthma been dificult again. ... But without the bricanyl it would be worse ....
This actually works to ur advantage ..... Give him loads of sympathy and support .. Then when he is better this Gets u little but more attention in the future !!!! Reminding him
How his pnuemonia made him feel,,, is similar to you and rubbish asthma !!!!!
Hi
I started with subcut Bricanyl last May. The results were nothing short of amazing and I felt human again for the first time in a long while. Unfortunately for me the results did not last. In mid September my peak flow took a nose dive and it stopped working for some reason. I had a ""Bricanyl holiday"" for a month and then tried again, but it was still not working. I was so disappointed and now I am back to square one and feeling really fed up. I haven't heard of many people who have said it has stopped working so I would say go for it, the benefits, if it works, far outweigh any inconveniences and you soon get used to using it. Hope it goes well for you.
Sometimes you can become tolerant to the bricanyl so that is why after a while it doesn't work or you need more of the stuff...
This happened to me a few years ago, I needed more and more Ventolin s/c and then more and more of the stuff IV it was getting silly and my heart was being a bit silly with it all too.
I was weaned off it and have it as a back up, though I have been using it more on than off at the mo.
If I have a quiet day at home and am not too bad, I will stop it for a few hours.
I have managed the odd few days without it, then when the nebbing gets a bit silly, I start it again. so having mini breaks.
It just varies so much from person to person.
Absorption also plays a role in how it works too...

Hi Hanson,
like kate i have used S/C bricayl since about 1994, and haveve learnt to forget about it, i however have had it stoped reciently as my current proff doesnt really like it, tho i do however go against him if i feel i need it.
You will soon learn where is comfy for you to use, i liked my thighs, the outer part, or lovehandle area, both were comfy and i forgot about them, i have lots of stretch marks on my tummy so it would pool there and not absorb so well, i was also not keen on the arms.
