hi

bricanyl is not a reliever. you may have been put on this as well daily and told to take ventolin only as needed. i think you need to clarify this with your gp or asthma nurse. and yes you can get bricanyl as a normal inhaler as well as a turbo. hope this helps

It is a releiver. I have lifted this straight from the BNF just to clarify for those using bricanyl who might have been worried. BTW Terbutline is another name for bricanyl and salbutamol is another name for ventolin.

""Short-acting beta2 agonists

Mild to moderate symptoms of asthma respond rapidly to the inhalation of a selective short-acting beta2 agonist such as salbutamol or terbutaline.

BRICANYL (aka Terbutaline) is most DEFINTELY a reliever !!!!!

I have it i nebuliser form, turbohaler form for when I cant carry my neb and even have tablet form 3 times a day too !!!!!

yep it is i have just checked all the bnfs in my house and they all say the same thing that brycanil or turbutaline is most definalty a reliever and it is used insteasd of salbutomol

yes, bricanyl is a reliever. I have never seen it in MDI form, but I have heard of it on here. Is there a particular reason you got switched? If not, you could ask about going back to salbutamol. Anyway, good luck

The mdi form was withdrawn from production in december 2005 due to it having a cfc propellant that under EC regulations can NOT be used anymore!

They are looking for a cfc free propellant but until then Bricanyl is turbohaler and respules (nebs) only in inhaleable form!

It also comes in 5mg tablets BUT not many

people use them!

I have the tablets as an alternative to the invasive route of sub-cut bricanyl!

cant go bk on salbutamol...docs think im allergic to it lol...trust me 2 b awkward!

Me too! I am so glad I am not the only one. he he You get some very dirty looks in a and e when they only ever have salbutamol nebs.

That's too bad you're allergic to it. Well I hope you'll get used to the turbuhaler then. It's not the best in an attack, but 'tis better than nothing! Take care
