Still getting worse.....

Thanks for everyone who helped me the other day with advice. As I said then, I haven't suffered from asthma for several years so trying to get a grip on things.

Since my last post, I have finished the 5 day course of 8 x steroids (today). I am due back on tuesday to the GP for a review. Since yesterday, and moreso today, I'm feeling even worse. I had an awful night of sweats and palpitations. My heart wasn't beating particularly fast, but very hard and skipping beats, almost thumping out of my chest. My glands in my neck are huge, which keeps happening frequently. The doc at the hospital last time commented how enlarged they were then. They feel worse now. The tightness in my test is much worse, as if I'm being permanently squeezed, though I am not particularly breathless. I was told to call out of hours doc if I felt worse before tuesday, but as I'm not gasping for breath or anything I would feel stupid doing so. I feel like someone is sitting on my chest and won't get off. This has been coming and going since the dreaded swine flu got me 10 weeks ago, but I can honestly say that my chest probably feels worse today than it has all the way through. I also have muscle pain across the front of my shoulders and chest.

Does anyone have any advice? I'm getting so fed up with feeling so ill.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Kate,

Sorry to hear that you're feeling worse, but you should call the out-of-hours doctor as you sound quite unwell. Feeling that someone (or an elephant) is sitting on your chest is a sign of poorly controlled asthma.

As for advice - hang on in there. I had severe asthma as a child and grew out of it too. It takes a while to get things under control when it relapses and often it's not as severe - Kat posted some very good advice about stepping up medication in the other thread.

Hope that helps,

Ginny

I agree with ginny call the out of hours doc, as you say you are getting worse then its best to catch it before it does. Maybe a trip to An E you might need something more stronger (nebs) than usual inhaler as it sounds like your symptoms are not being relieved.

Hope you feel better soon.

Clare

Ive just finished my steroid tablets 8 x5days. I too got terrible palpitations, though i have been on penicillin too.Two days after finishing both courses i have just started to feel ive turned a corner. Maybe you need to go back to the GP or as its the weekend, call out the emergency one to listen to your chest.Thats what they are on duty for isnt it! Its a long time till Monday morning surgery and breathing is essential after all. I hope you get some relief soon, best wishes .

Taking shiney new mod hat out of the box and making sure it fits.

Katy, you are obviously having some problems and this NOT the place for seeking medical advice, it sounds like you need proper assessment and I would suggest you either call your out of hours GP, NHS direct or go to your local A&E. AUK is here for more general advice and support. I hope you get sorted soon it does sound like you are having a bad time.
