Inflamation - Infection

If Asthma is caused by infamation I don`t understand why antibiotics are prescribed, aren`t they for Infection?

Yes antibiotics are mainly used for infection but some antibiotics also have anti inflamatry properties. I know my consultant confused me with this the other week as suggested in the future i take arthroymcin because it has anti inflamatry properties. I also know some antibiotics have anti viral properties too. So i guess antibiotics can be multi fuctional.

got chest infection and had it for weeks but i've been ok and able to manage my asthma. I had a really bad attack thursday night and woke up fri morning gasping for my breath. My own fault for putting going docs off x

After getting a cold last week I had another attack on monday and rang my gp and got to see him staight away which is a big improvement on past history. He gave me the usual predinisolone which always helps but i told him i had think i had a chest infection to which he agreed but said that the latest thinking was not to give antibiotics to asthma sufferers? I found that a bit strange since when i had to go to A & E about 6 months ago they gave me Augmentin which seemed to help. If the pred and my increased doses of Symbicort and Bricanyl don't improve my condition in the next few days i'll have to go back to the gp.

Why do some docs give antibiotics and others don't?

Dont put off going to the docs, if you have an infection, Infections can cause damage to your lungs and other parts, if you had an infection in your private parts , would you bugger about waiting , or get to the doctor?????????? Gaz
