I've been on pred continuously for 11 months now but recently I am getting reflux despite being on lansoprazole and also stomache pains. Have an appointment with Gp on Tuesday - should I ask to increase lansoprazole or are problems not due to pred?
It's impossible to say whether your problems are due to the pred, other mediction or something completely unrelated. Bronchodilators such as salbutamol and theophylline can contribute to reflux, as they relax the valve between the stomach and the oesophagus, as well as relaxing the airways.
It's definitely worth getting it sorted, as reflux is thought to contribute to asthma symptoms in some people by small amounts of acid spilling over into the lungs and irritating them.
It sounds from what you've said that you may not be on the maximum dose of lansoprazole, and there are also other treatments you can try for reflux. Do mention it to your doctor and see if you can get it sorted.
