My chest hurts and I've been coughing a lot. I was breathless walking up hte stairs to my flat - had to stop halfway to get my breath. and now I've just been sick

Hi Fluffy Fish,

I am guessing you want someone to talk to. My advice to you would be to sit down now you have reached your flat. Take a peak flow reading, take some salbutamol. If you are still really coughing, have a steamy bath or shower. Sip a hot drink as well or at the same time. I am very often sick from coughing too much. If your peak flow, after relaxing etc is below 50% of your best you must contact your gp or go to the hospital.

I really suffer badly from coughing with asthma, when I am really desperate to stop it I use codeine. or Codeine cough mix, which is a cough supressant. However, you should not do this without some medical advice, because if you have a chest infection it can make things worse.

Am still breathless when I climb stairs. Had to use my inhaler 6 times today. and still have a wheezy cough!
