Balloon Releases

I have moved this away from the posting about Rusty's thanksgiving service as I don't think it appropriate to have this debate there. Ballon releases are massiviely damaging to the environment, balloons don't rot animals eat them once they have come back down to earth and it kills them. The thought is lovely its just not very ""green"".

Im in total agreement with you Bex, lovely idea but not ideal. How about we agree on a time for those who cant make the actual memorial and we all light a candle at that time, and for those that can tolerate candles just a minutes peace.

Hi there would like to add that not only are balloon releases damaging to the environment they are a nightmare for people like me with Type I latex allergy which causes anaphylaxis. I keep trying to promote public awareness of this allergy as many people with this allergy also have asthma like myself.

Thanks

Many companies have stopped promoting balloon releases as they are damaging to wildlife. Turtles can mistake them for jellyfish and eat them as well as the other damage they do on land.

Candles are a better way to remembering.

BTW found two foil balloons recently on the reserve at work - one happy birthday and one it's a boy.

I am in agreement with Tamsin as I am also a Type 1 latex allergy sufferer... There are many other ways to remember a person which does cause a problem to humans, animals or the environment in general....
