When i come down with a vrius i always get a bout of itchy and very irritating hives. Antihistamines help with the itching, but they are so annoying, any tips to stop me scratching?

Hives
A cool bath or cover yourself with aqueous and calamine. Supposed to work wonders and doesn't dry crusty like the old calamine lotion used to. Otherwise a cool flannel over the worst of them is good. Just don't scratch that actually releases histamine and makes the itch worse.

My problem is scratching during the night; I often wake up looking like I have had a few rounds in the ring with a lion / tiger. Cotton gloves helps.
problem with me and gloves, cant get em to fit as i was blessed with long skinny piano fingers, but i'll give it a go, cheers for that
Oatmeal baths?
When my daughter gets any kind of itchy rash i.e. chicken pox, heat rash, etc I put a couple of handfuls of porridge oats in an old sock and tie it to the tap while I run her a bath. Sometimes you have to squeeze the sock a bit to get the oaty bit out but it is very soothing. And very cheap:~) You need to use an old sock though (or tights or whatever) and just chuck it all away when your done.
