Doxycycline
Hello Gynis, sorry you are not having any luck shifting your infection. I have had doxycycline for a chest infaction and it was very effective.
Bex
it's just a broad spectrum antibiotic, you can't keep having the same one time after time, or you will build up an immunity to them, lets hope this one works.
Hi Glynis
How long have you been taking Doxycycline? If you are coming towards the end of the course and there has been no improvement you ought to see your GP again and it might be you need alternative antibiotics.
I have tried Doxycycline in the past for a chest infection and it did not help me and made me feel nauseous and made me vomit alot so I went back and my antibiotics were changed.
Hope you feel better soon

thankyou Bex and woody-som x
i'm on oxytetracycline is that the same? x
oxytetracycline is just another broad spectrum antibiotic, used to treat a wide variety of conditions, I have a box here at home incase, along with a course of pred.
I took doxy when the drs thought i might have lyme disease. from what i remember it made me a little nausious too. From what i heard at the time doxy is the antibiotic of choice for tropical disease/ type infections, but that could be hear say! but i know its used regularly for lyme treatment.
One thing to note is photsensitivity of your skin- you need to keep out of direct sunlight, not so much of an issue at this time of year but in the summer months you need to cover up and use very high factor suncream as doxy can make your skin very photo sensitive!
Only other weir/unusual antibiotic i had was clarithromycin when i was in hospital with pericarditis, presumeably because the drs suspected lyme disease (yet didnt communicate this to me properly). That one left the most horrible taste in my mouth for hours after taking it! it wasnt the what the tablet did to my mouth as i swallowed it, it was something in the drugs that did weird things to my taste senses i think, but i hated it!
Yes. After just having strep pneumoniae which I took amoxycilin for, I now have a hib infection in my lungs. Was initially prescribed 10 days of doxycycline but they have given me another 16 days worth to really see it off as it can be stubborn apparently. The doc also said that doxycycline can take a little longer to work than other abs. After 2 weeks worth i can now feel the difference ..
