*waves* hi Emma I'm 19! X
Im 23 at the start of August, so I still consider myself reasonably young! Although, a 10 year old patient once told me that I was really old!
I'm 25 which is not old. Though I do feel it sometimes living in such a student city, not to mention being overtaken by old grannies and all the slow-moving tourists (seriously, WHY do tourists walk that slowly? They can't all be asthmatic/have bad legs etc - I'd never last a day or even half a day going round all the sights like they do).
boredom is starting to hit in & was wandering if anyone else around my age on here as not spoke to many [that I'm aware of].
I guess you'd count me as old (30), but I don't feel it.
I spent most of my teens in hospital with asthma (and a fair amount of time since then) so I'm aware of how isolating it can feel to be young and sick. I still feel very young in comparison to most of the people on hospital wards with me, even at the Brompton, where they tend to be younger.
same here i talk to snowygirl alot she helped me lots on saturday and i help her out as well
Ooh yes. Everyones about 80 [not OTT either] & I'm sat on my own,, sit tight, be quiet & hope time goes fast lol
I feel old when I go to cons appts, especially for cardiology - and especially in the ECG/echo waiting room where I've been quite a bit now! Everyone else seemed to be an elderly couple. General resp about the same, maybe a few more young people.
I did feel very young when I went for a bronchoscopy (and I was still winning the prize for most impressive cough on the day ward even though I was by far the youngest, if you don't count the 2-year-old.)
Sometimes I wish I was still young enough to be under paediatrics, then again, I'd probably complain that I feel outta place for being too old. Lol. What'd be nice would be staying free from hospital.. Hmm.
Nah, I used to go to paeds regularly (for something totally unrelated to asthma) and I just felt large and awkward as a teenager in a waiting room full of small children - you can't win! Staying away is the only way, hope you manage that at least for a bit longer than at the moment.
Though it did have its moments. I found it quite funny having a blood test with my arm supported by a giant stuffed alligator - that you would not get in adult phlebotomy.
Know what you mean. Sometimes its nice to have someone your own age to chat to. You'll have gathered from my user name, I'm one of the older ones. 58 to be precise. Grandma to three small kiddies.
My problem is most of the folk I see regularly, in their 40s and 50s, act as if they're already ancient and past it. Except for one lovely lass in her mid-70s, just as daft as me. We get on great. Lots of giggles. Hope there's someone of whatever age like that for you.
hi Emma i go next afther lil tinx Im 21
19 and ten months
Mwaaahaha. And I've been here longer than any of you so *blows raspberry*
I'm hyper. Oh dear.
I got kicked out of paeds at 16, and was quite pleased until I realised it meant I ended up in geriatrics!
Some hospitals have 'young adult' units, which I think is a great idea. The advice that young adults need (school, college, jobs, relationships, etc.) isn't quite the same as for older adults...
I turned 19 two weeks ago
im 15 so i guess im one of the youngest ones
I'm a young at heart 54. Does that count?
I'm 53 'young'. Feel like 18 in my head. :))
I'm 56 until I get with my grandchildren and then I act about 2. I blow bubbles, build with bricks, throw the ball and sometimes I get to draw and even use glue and glitter (but only as a BIG treat if I've been good).
I am 34 so definately over the hill.. work with 5 and 6 year olds...so sometimes get glue and glitter out too.
I'm 41 so definitely ancient - however I live on the south coast so at any given admission it's a pretty safe bet that I'll probably be the youngest on the ward by about 30 years!
Haha I used to live in Dorset, never went to hospital there but bet it would have been full of 90-year-olds if I had.
Wonder where you have to go for that not to be the case though - some really trendy city where everyone chain-smokes?
Love all the glitter and craft-related fun! That is definitely a treat to be allowed to play with those
The Brompton is a pretty good place for not ending up with geriatrics. I've still been the youngest each admission I've had here, but by less than two decades, mostly, which is better than my local hospital!
I'm 25. Depends who I'm with as to whether I feel old or young. Teaching 18 and 19 year olds when I was a trainee teacher at 21 was a bit of a strange experience though!
im twelve
Im 25 but feel a lot younger! I think age is just a number though x
