Hi, its really hard to diagnose asthma in the under 2's and some children are simply ""wheezers"" but without asthma. The best thing you could do for now is to keep a record of your concerns. The main symptoms you are looking out for at his age is coughing at night (late evening through to morning). This cough may not even wake him, but as a mum - it would probably wake you. Asthma is variable and symptoms may not be constant. The only other thing you should do is (and i know this sounds weird) is watch him when he runs and plays but dont focus on listening to his breathing...if you were deaf would you be worried about waht you saw? how he coped with play? Does he pull back from activity whilst peers continue? If you could'nt hear his breath would you be concerned? If the answer is yes - note what you see and return to GP or see the asthma nurse for a chat. Also relevant is a family history of asthma or atopy (allergy and eczema)
