The doc listened to his chest and said that he has asthma and gave us ventolin and referred us to the asthma clinic. I was just wondering if it can be picked up by just listening to the chest or will he have to be tested more once he goes to the asthma clinic.
not sure how he can tell it's asthma just by listening to his chest, there are other things it could be. At least he referred you on. Don't worry about using the ventolin, it won't do any harm. What are the symptoms your child has though? Make note of them, and how often.
he has wheezing and a barkig cough they have ruled out a chest infection as they gave him antibotics but they didn't do anything.

Doctors usually like to use the words suspected asthma or possible asthma then probable asthma before settling on a diagnosis in a child so young. Is there a strong family history or do you already have an asthmatic child? These are factors which may have led the dr to be more certain of an asthma diagnosis. Failing that referring your child on is a good move and seeing how he responds to the ventolin will all help make a diagnosis more certain! I was diagnosed very young as there was a strong family history of asthma and i was a very wheezy child always had a barking cough and kept getting repeat chest infections. Good luck with the appointment let us no how you get on. Lv kat Xxx
