im afraid you are in a no win situation i dont keep my daughter off unless she is really wheezy now and just speak to my daughters school and keep her off pe and outside play when she is more wheezy than usual.i often get phonecalls to pick her up but at least we try however i think half the time they dont want the hassle and thats why they send her home.however recently i went in and spoke with the head teacher and explained how i felt.i dont know what your childs school is like but we have a home school book just for daily feedback on her asthma and they write in everytime she has her inhaler so we can take it with us when she sees the consultant.Another idea is that you draw up a care plan for them with school to make sure they know what to do and when.i have also sent in the asthma cards from this website and given them the number and email address so they can get more info.i'm sorry if ive gone on i hope it helps.

I know how you feel. My son has been hospitalised with his asthma 5 times since Nov 08 and he is there for 3 to 5 days. I have been threatened with court action and have to try and take in medical evidence ( which my drs refuse to write letters for schools as he feels parents know their children better than anyone) He went back to school today after being off for 5 days in hospital.

Th only way I can get through this is the fact my sons health will always come first.

Had a thought. If your doctor wont write you a letter, how about asking the ward for a copy of the hospital discharge letter they send to the GP? That would be evidence enough surely that your son/ daughter was in hospital, and you are within your rights to ask for a copy...
