I had a knee replacement four years ago and although it was never great it was such an improvement I just went with it. The surgeon said there was not much left for him to work with after years of abuse !!! Four years on though and I am having more and more issues. I cannot walk up and down stairs and the knee feels as if it has a tight band around it when I am walking. I am not in pain as such apart from huge discomfort when walking. I have recently seen a specialist again and he said an Xray was fine and that I needed to 'fire up my quads' - so I have been trying all sorts of exercises but nothing c hanges. The left leg is still painfully weak.
Any suggestions ????

I am in the US so things may be a bit different here but I just went back for a 5 year check up because I was having pain and tightness. I was told the tightness is scar tissue and the pain was caused from inflamed tendons. My doctor sent me to physical therapy where I was evaluated and given daily exercises. He said even though the knee is replaced, the tendons and muscles can cause pain. I am also using ice and a muscle rub made from essential oils. Best of luck; I hope you get some relief.
so sorry to hear this. The only thing I can suggest is to find yourself a good physio and there are, believe me, some good NHS physios who will assess and work with you without just sending you sheets of exercises. You can self-refer. Good luck
