Hi Batty1,I have heard about this proceedure, but like many other options for arthritis don't believe it is commonly used in the NHS a lot of current research is going on too in respect of weight bearing pressure on the blood supply , muscles, and arthritic joints. But it is only research , but looks promising for the future treatment . Will try to get back to you with any details I can find, seems to be lots about managing arthritis but not much on latest treatments or research.

webmd.com/arthritis/radiofr... don’t know if this will link because sometimes you have to sign in to Web md. I had very successful RFA for Sacroiliac joint problems along with steroid injections into the facet joints, trochanteric bursa, facet joints and iliac crest area. (My pain dr believes in full attack with no sedation and leather strap between your teeth 🥴). It lasted for about 18 months and meant I was more mobile. It’s all come back now and I am on the waiting list for the pain clinic. Hoping I can have it again.

Hi Batty1, I haven't seen this article but last June I had a diagnostic medial branch block which was to determine whether my pain in my lower back/ SI joint would benefit from radiofrequency ablation. Unfortunately I did not respond in a positive way to suggest that it would be beneficial. It was worth a try and for anyone who may be offered this I would give it a go. It's one of those things that may work for you.

Don’t let me put you off.

When it was shared with me the pain clinic said that they used the steroid X-ray guided injections to see if it works.

30% has no effect 40% shirt terms(mine was 6 weeks of relief) and 30% have longer term.

If you are in the 70% that had a positive response then ablation may work.

Again I was told the results work on similar ratio for ablation as above. Mine was in the non effective 30%.

It is very uncomfortable to have done BUT if there is a chance of relief take it. It can last a year or more in positive cases until the nerves grow back.

Take care
