Where to find motivation ?

I once read, do something for 21 days and it will become habit. Not so sure I am I believer lol I have been walking ten to fifteen kilometres daily for the last 24 days and yet lack motivation to continue.

I started originally with a research project but let it drop after developing anemia. Now that restrictions are being lifted I need to shed the Covid 20 or 30 lol

Arthritis can truly limit the range of activities I can do . Walking 🚶‍♂️ for me is beneficial in that I do not eat from boredom. I am also more conscious of intake as I work so hard to keep it off. I am now in my sixties WOW ! How quickly the time passes .

Perhaps some of you can share your experience with how best to manage drugs we take and weight management .

Hello damaged. That’s a lot of mileage! Or do we call it kilométrage? Anyway, I do 10,000 paces average per day which is around 40 km per week. Additionally, I do ten minutes per day, five days per week, of exercise (I follow Jo Wickes for Seniors on UTube) where my pulse rate rises to around 130 beats per minute (my resting rate is around 65 bpm).My arthritic pain is exacerbated by the medication I take to help prevent recurrence of cancer. As the pain was worsening a doctor at my practice who specialises in musculoskeletal issues decided to refer me to a consultant rheumatologist who confirmed I have generalised osteoarthritis. Management is through exercise, weight control and pain relief. I’ve also been referred to a physiotherapist who has prescribed a range of exercises. She says I’m in very good shape for my age (75).

Pain relief is indeed a problem. My own GP is a specialist in pain relief so we went through a range of medication. The only thing that helps me is Butec (look it up) with co-codamol taken in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep.

I need to lose an additional 3kg which is happening slowly at the rate of about 1 kg every six weeks! Slow but sure!

I do Wordle every day and it is now a habit or it could be an addiction!

I was told it takes 3 weeks to lose a habit and 3 months to make one!

I do know what you mean about arthritis limiting what you do. If I go for a walk I have to do it in my garden or I may find myself too far away when the pain strikes to get back, and when it strikes it means no more walking!!!! My arthritis is worst on my knee - it is at the point of needing replaced but they won't do it as I am too young (60 lol) What they don't factor in is it's ruining my life NOW and by the time they decide to do it this part of my life is gone and I could have so much more. (queue violins)

With regard to meds, I aske about the ones I am on and was told the pros outweigh the cons, so stay on them and, the big one, get the weight off!!!!

I felt motivated by challenging myself. I downloaded a step counter on my phone and used it. It not only counted my steps but tracks my speed and calories burned. There are a lot of free apps like this.

I would rather be able to walk now and be bedridden when I am eighty - hell I may not even live that long anyways!!!!
