Post hip replacement
I am on a morphine substitute at the moment (not for hip replacement) and I was told when I started that there would be ‘cold turkey’ when I eventually come of it, but that the dose would be gradually reduced so that the effects were less. Was this not offered to you? Seek your doctors advice.
Sorry to hear this..
How long ago did you stop oramorph?.and how long were you on it? should be only about 5 night worth, so you don't get the after effects you describe.
The hospital should also have given you something to help with the constipation...its usually in sachets you mix with water ,think it's this - can be purchased online or chemists/pharmacy -

The feeling low and crying could be your body reacting to the operation...but I think you need to either ring the hospital - you should have a contact number in the discharge papers or your own GP. Know it's difficult at the moment, but please try, or if all else fails rings nhs 111.
Thanks for your reply I was on oramorph for about 2 weeks, I ran out about a week ago. They said nothing about reducing it gradually. I got sachets for the constipation but ended up having to get pessaries. I will ring the doctor if my mood doesn't improve this is not usually like me at all, it doesn't help that I live on my own either.thanks again.
I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling so poorly after stopping OramorphI'm recovering from a knee replacement now and I'm having an odd spoonful as and when
I didn't know that there were withdrawal symptoms but all I can say is that recovery time for hip replacements is very good I have had both mine replaced
I'm finding my emotions are all over the place and I have tears for no reason
I wish you all the very very best xx
Thank-you cat33. Its 3 in the morning but the pains not too bad now. Never going to take oramorph again. You are so brave to have 2 hip operations and a knee. Had a few tears today as I found out that my daughter had covid and I would be spending.xmas.alone, but I also had good walk with my dog not much pain either. Best of luck and thanks again for taking time to reply. Sherob54.
Hope you are feeling better now. I found emotions were all over the place during the first 4 weeks of recovery and my body reacted badly to the morphine. My gp advised me to half the dose and up the paracetemol and I was weaned off it gently.
