Hi me again, doing really well, down to one stick and short walks each day but now I'm worrying about the wound which is very tender and today a small amount of weeping (clear)in two places.Ive had the staples out, phoned the hospital but they don't seem worried about it even though they haven't seen it,any advice please ?I'm thinking maybe see if I can see my practice nurse? Thanks Judy.

Hi,

Not sure if it’s normal for everyone (mine never did, but then I heal very quickly), but having looked online most sites only comment on whether it’s a “pus like” discharge you need to worry and if it’s inflamed around wound...and advice is speak to hospital, as you have.

As you only had staples out recently maybe it’s that?

Even though you have spoken to hospital if you are still worried perhaps you should contact GP surgery and ask for somebody to look at it.....I know it’s difficult at the moment, but we keep being told ‘the NHS is open’....

.....tenderness is normal, and likely to be for a long time.....

Each Hospital seems to use different wound proceedures, so although I am sure it will heal do look after yourself and speak to your GP surgery . Good luck with recovery, I am 8 weeks post op and can only now walk properly but still stiff. But my wound took more than two weeks to heal . Take care & stay safe.

Thanks for your reply,it does seem a little better today. How soon did you shower/bath after your op,our shower is over the bath so I've been restricted to strip washes, the wound hasn't had water on it yet. I'm taking a short walk each day.Thanks.Judy

I could not shower for around three weeks due to other health issues. i.e swollen leg, bruising , waterworks & bowel issues. But I'm able to shower if I am careful now.Ihave a walk in shower no bath . I had a waterproof dressing which allows you to shower after two weeks so I would think you would be OK to bath maybe with help or do you live alone like me? Maybe need to ask someone about that. Don't go rushing though its early days and you don't want to fall and undo all the good work. Take care

Thanks for your reply Katie, yes I live alone so more of the strip washes for now!The wound seems better today but still several horrible clots to fall off.I am becoming more confident and my pre op knee pain has gone so I'm going to walk a little further today the sun is shining here in Hettfordshire but we've been put into tier three. Thanks, keep well. Take care, the wound will heal given time mine took about 4 weeks but we are all different.

In that case you need to stick with the strip washes - not a good idea to try and get in bath - too dangerous until you are completely happy with balance and bending operated knee!
