Hello Leewhyte. I expect we all need to watch our diets and keep moving!
Hello Lee
I've got Rheumatoid Arthritis and take daily corticosteroids so I've put on weight. Unfortunately, due to joint problems (ankles and knees) I struggle to walk more than 100 m and riding a bike is out of the question. I had been swimming and going to aqua fit classes but there are no pools open near me now.
There was an interesting article in The Times yesterday about the most effective and proven way to lose weight, backed up by scientific evidence. It seems it's all about changing what you eat and reducing the quantity, rather than just exercise. There's a book by Professor Roy Taylor entitled Life Without Diabetes (published by Short Books at £9.99) which explains it all (and it's not just for diabetics).
I'm going to have a go.... good luck to you!
Hi Leewhyte , thanks for getting in touch and sorry to hear you're experiencing pain in your hip at the moment.
It may be worth looking at the Arthritis Action website for information about the importance of staying active and keeping to a healthy weight while living with arthritis. It details some of the best options for keeping active if you're not able to run, and some tips on exercising with arthritis.

If you prefer video content, there's also a useful video on our YouTube channel from registered Osteopath David Vaux discussing ways to stay active with arthritis:
