This news is not exactly good news but it is a step forward in the present crisis. The news in our area today say the back log for none urgent ops & returns to clinic for those on waiting lists is huge and could double by Christmas, the capacity to treat could be as low as 60% due to the extra precautions needed and rehabilitation post op care. So it will possibly be early next year before many of us , even those from the top of the list prior to cancellation due to virus. One hospital is opening a new unit for orthopeadics possibly early Autumn. Others are operating but not the usual amount. Whats it like in your area everywhere will be different I presume. ?

Hi Katieoxo60 I'm in Scotland nothing here yet about ops starting anytime soon, lots of discussions though at the Scottish Parliament live, other parties asking government when these ops will go ahead.
Hope this helps.
Hello Jinty22, apparently here in England most hospitals are now working at 60% in respect of normal services and back log. This will continue for sometime unless a resurge of the virus occurs. An interesting thing in respect of care services is its mentioned about being careful not to infringe peoples human rights, however don't many of the rules/advice to control coronavirus spread contravene human rights? Anyway so as not to get too technical thank you for your reply , we do seem to be moving forward , fingers crossed progress continues in Scotland too.
I’m currently waiting for an urgent complex hip replacement- does anyone know, when urgent operations are going to carry on?!
The urgent ops are not supposed to have stopped, but we know different. It was announced on May 18th that operations should start again and other routine health tests ect. It seems at present that cancer ops are taking priority and orthopeadics are bottom of the list as they are higher risk in respect of infection. This is not particularly fair as it is leaving us in pain , .stuck at home due to immobility with no outside help available . Each Area of the NHS seems to be deciding their own priority but the patient is just left in suspension Hope you get news soonx
Thanks for your reply..... I have received good news.... my new hip will be fitted in July 🙂
Now the build up nerves are going to start again! 🥺
That is good news in a kind of way, try to stay relaxed and as it is only a few weeks away keep yourself as isolated as possible dont want to go gettting the virus after such a long wait and being cancelled again. Best wishes thanks for sharing your news it gives me hope for my op soon and many others on here that are waiting. Take care ,stay safe and heres to a speedyish recovery with no complications. Best Wishes.
I now have a broken wrist as I slipped in the bath getting at the start of the week?!

Luckily it was my left wrist so I can still use my crutch 🙃
