Hi, I'm Chrys. I have very painful, arthritic hands and fingers. My thumbs are particularly painful and I have had a number of cortisone injections in them over the last few years. They helped for a few months but now I just take cocodamo capsulsl and rub in some Capzasin gel for pain relief.
Some people recommend eating or eliminating items from our diet. Who knows? I'd be interested, like you if there's anyone who can give any helpful suggestions. It can be so debilitating!
Hi Chrys, how lovely to see you here. No, I'm not stalking you. I was wondering if maybe you have an inflammatory Arthritis such as RA, as that quite often affects the fingers. I apologize if 'm going down the wrong track. One suggestion I have, is to try a wax bath.
Oh thank you poems! It's surprising who you meet on these forums! How kind of you to notice it was me!
Do you have arthritis too? It sounds like you speak with authority as someone who suffers too.
I have so many medical conditions its frightens me sometimes. I tend to brush them aside and try not to think about them until something crops up to remind me.
I have ordered some gloves on line to see if they help with my hands. The wax bath sounds interesting. Thanks for the help links I will follow them up too.
Yes, I have RheumatoidArthritis and Osteoarthritis, with Osteoporosis, Vasculitis, and of course Bronchiectasis. Had cancer in 2012-13 and good old high BP. Just shoot me now. LOL! (Joking).
You continually set an example to us all Kath. We can all hide our inner feelings behind smiles and jest. It helps in some way but there's no getting away from it, life is very difficult at times. Sent with a wry smile.
Cutting out processed food, and food containing a lot of additives may well help. Dr Rangan Chatterjee suggests avoiding any bought food containing more than five ingredients (see his books or the internet). Alternatively Patrick Holford has written about arthritis, and also digestion, both of which are relevant. He also has a website.
I suggest starting with one change which you can make easily, and then following with another, and keep a diary of how bad the problem is eg on a scale of 1 to 10, and with descriptions. Exactly what is causing your particular problems will be individual, but there are many possible interventions which will help eg taking a probiotic daily . . . , so notice what makes the most difference.
It has been likened to a ship which is so low in the water that it is gradually sinking. Each intervention is like something thrown overboard which lightens the ship, until eventually it is no longer sinking - and you feel a lot better!
Hi Romey1, I have the very same problem, started about 2 months ago, and gradually got worse. Swollen knuckles, painful joints, and cannot bend them. My worse finger is the ring finger on my right hand, so I would like to hear of any pain relief !
