Just wondering

I’m just wondering if RA can follow suit after being diagnosed with OA years before. I was diagnosed with OA almost 4 years ago. The reason I ask both of my pinky fingers have been achy for about three or for days now. I know with RA if a pinky finger one one hand aches usually the other does on the other hand does as well. I’ve had trouble with arthritis in my hands for the last few years but the way it’s acting it sounds like RA is trying to start now what does this sound like to you?

You can have either RA or OA at any time irrespective of when they start. Having both RA and OA I can tell you that RA doesn't always affect both sides. I frequently get one side or the other cause pain and inflammation in my hands or fingers. I don't have OA in my hands, just my hips. That doesn't mean you don't have RA, but I sincerely hope you don't. My RA started in my wrists and ankles and didn't touch my fingers until much later.

Poemsgalore1 ,both types in in my family. I was tested twice for RA about 6 years ago and it came back negative both times. But doesn’t mean it hasn’t started on me now. I’m in my mid 40s the OA stared before I was out of my thirty’s. I was 36 or 37 at the time my OA started showing signs in my hands. I always thought sooner or later I’d have a second form of arthritis just didn’t know when though. But then again it might be my OA that I only have still . IDK.

Your tests may come out negative because you could have sero-negative Rheumatism which may never test positive. Or Ankolysing Spondylitis that gives negative results. Time to Google!

Suejayne, I think I’m going to tell my gp when I go to hi in March that I want to be tested for other forms of arthritis. Do to the fact I also have day that the tops of my legs at time also hurt like the devil at the same time each time that acts up. When they act up I’ve done both to make them feel the way they do. It makes it difficult to walk when that happens. It makes me had to sit when I can’t as well. This is another reason I feel I have a second form of arthritis. When that happens with my legs I feel like needing assistance to get around. What does this sound like to you?

I am not a doctor but you seem to have other symptoms that need to be explored. Make sure you have some basic idea of sero negative rheumatology. Write down the points and symptoms you want to cover. Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

I’m no doctor either but I’ve always wondered if I have more than just OA. Do to the fact that the meds I’ve tried for my OA haven’t helped.

A lot of people share this symptom. That pain is bad enough without also feeling that the cold penetrates your bones as well. Look forward to the gradual warmth of the spring.

I just hope this spring and summer months aren’t like last year for me. . Even with the warmer temps last year I was feeling the pain quite a bit. Especially in my back and right hip. I had days I could barely move. Didn’t think it wouldn’t be as bad as it was last summer but it was. I seem to feel it more and more in the middle of my spine area anymore. The longer I stand the worse it gets for me. Not sure what to do at this point right now.
