I am currently on Prednisone 5 mg twice per day (morning and evening) for late onset seronegative RA. I have been on this Prednisone dosage for 6 weeks, having been diagnosed with RA some four months ago.
I would like to switch to a single (10 mg) morning dose (better for adrenals & easier to sleep?). I guess, I am asking if one can switch abruptly or does this have to to be done gradually? Thanks.

If your consultant has advised you to switch from 2 to one Pred, then that is OK. If on the other hand you want to do it alone, I advise you to take both tablets at the same time (morning) and ring the clinic to ask one of the Rheumy nurses for advice. Taking them in the morning will make it easier to sleep. I used to take 8 a day, all in the morning. But NEVER reduce any steroids without medical advice.
Thanks for the advice, I do indeed know about the need to taper off steroids. I will check as you wisely suggest before making any modifications. Thanks again.
