Hi,sorry for long post.my mum has been admitted to hospice for heart failure. She was referred by cardiology who said she had weeks to live. This was in fact weeks ago and she is very much still here and seems to be improving. They are now looking for a bed in a nursing home.I am concerned about her meds and the attitude of the palliative doctors.I requested that they reduce her diuretic as she was so weak....they said once in palliative care there is no more input from cardiology.Under pressure from me they did contact cardio who agreed her furosemide should be reduced. She has coped, more energetic and still no oedema.I am very concerned though that once you go into hospice all other specialists seem to wash their hands off you as had been suggested by palliative consultant. Is this normal? For example she has received an appointment for a kidney scan - does she not get to go to this as she's in a hospice? This was not explained to us when the bed became available and in face she had been referred to local cottage hospital or hospice and hospice bed came up first.Any advice appreciated.Thanks.

I am so sorry to hear about your mum but I am so glad she is improving, this is good news. I do hope her improvement continues.
One day I could be in her position so you mentioning this has helped me to decide what to do when my time comes. You just have to keep continuing to fight for her.
I hope someone who knows someone in the same position as your mum comes along to give their experience.
I wish you both all the best, and your mum to continue to improve. Also you can always contact the BHF nurses they might be able to help.
Please keep in contact and let us know how you are both doing.
