I have non ischaemic dilated cardiomyopathy affecting both ventricles, which has led onto me having heart failure.
I regularly have what I would call heart pain or chest discomfort. Usually, as the title says, at night or early morning, whilst in bed. Sometimes in the evening. Never on exertion. Quite uncomfortable, occasionally waking me up - like this morning đ
Does anyone else experience similar symptoms? I am assuming that it is a symptom of my heart failure. Most times pain is on the left, but today both sides of chest, and between shoulder blades in my back.
(My cardiologist doesn't seem too concerned as I don't have any ischemic heart disease, he says that it is unlikely that I am having heart attack symptoms.)
Being newly diagnosed, I am still being titrated up onto medications, I am wondering if this symptom will improve once I reach optimised (or max tolerated) drug levels?
Does anyone with heart failure have similar sensations/discomfort?
(I will have a chat with my heart failure nurse at my next appointment.)
Best wishes Western

Hi I have dilated cardiomyopathy and heart failure. Iâm not sure about whether I have pains like you as I take co-codomal for other pains.
Your cardiologist who diagnosed your tests which showed up DCM would know the condition of your heart itself. My DCM has progressed to severe now. Iâve never had a heart attack.
There have been times when Iâve had very bad chest pains but it then disappears as quickly as it comes or my Gp has sent me to a&e to have an ECG and chest Xray and sometimes an echocardiogram is arranged.
Maybe as you said once youâre fully on your meds it might settle. If it becomes really bad call 111 having some tests when youâre having the pains wonât hurt. Another thing weâre all different so maybe someone will come along whoâs going through the same.
Thank you for your reply and sharing your experience. I am sorry to hear that your DCM has progressed to severe. I hope that you are managing the day to day things.
I will have a chat with my heart failure nurse, they are a font of knowledge.
Please continue to take the best care of yourself.
