Postpartum Anxiety?

Hi all,

I’m new here. I had bad postpartum anxiety, and I still have really bad anxiety surrounding my son almost 2 years later. I almost feel scared of him. Does that make sense to anyone?? I have no friends and no doctor to talk to. I feel so alone and like such a horrible mother.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!! I’m just sick of feeling so alone, guilty, weird, etc.

Thank you!

Hi

Welcome to the forum which is for mums recovering, or who have recovered, from Postpartum Psychosis. Anxiety also seems to be a feature of this traumatic illness for some of us. I'm sorry that you have bee suffering for two years. Is there a doctor you could contact as perhaps medication would be helpful, or talking therapy to find out the source of your anxiety? I'm sorry you don't have a friend to comfort you, it must be lonely trying to cope on your own.

As you are in the US I wonder if you have heard of Postpartum Support International at postpartum.net? Under 'Find local support and help' you will find a map of the US and details of local support depending on which State you live in. I hope you can reach out for support. Take care.

Morning

Sorry to hear you feel this way. If it helps I felt exactly the same not so long ago. I’m just starting to feel confident with my 2 year old since I’ve changed medication and spoke to my doctor. It does get better with the right treatment x

Hello

I am so sorry to hear you are feeling so anxious and unsure of yourself as a mother. Anxiety sadly makes everyday life much more of a struggle and can be exhausting particularly with a little one to care for. Your little boy, I am sure, loves you very much and though you may doubt yourself, he will just be very happy to have his mummy to love and care for him.

Are there any places close to home where young mothers meet? I understand it will be a big step for you to take but could perhaps lead to a friendship for both you and your little boy.

I am sending you a virtual hug and wish you well.

4mila x

Hi I used Zoloft for anxiety. I’m in the us too. It seems we don’t have as much as the uk does! No mom and baby unit for sure. At least not in California. Therapy helps. If your insurance doesn’t cover go to the church and talk to a pastor that’s free. Prayer. Lots of talking. Plenty of sleep exercise and good food. Then just try to find things that you enjoy and feel comfortable doing with your child. I have a two year old too. Was crippled with anxiety when she was a baby but made a great recovery. You can do it.
