I was just trying to ask this question. Thanks. Last preg I was off and just started post natal lithium and short term quetiapine . That together with epidural and a lot of prayer kept illness away. This time as things more stressful as I have a toddler. As much as I don't like meds during preg or generally I may start third trimester lithium to lower post natal risk. It is supposed to be safe after 26wks. I think the main thing is to avoid first 3 months if poss,

Hi both

Congratulations boat1 on your pregnancy :) I hope you're feeling well, it sounds like you have some good plans in place, and have received good support.

I did just want to make sure that you do know of the support and guidance that is available, and for anyone else reading this thread. If you are planning a pregnancy or are pregnant ideally it's good to see a Perinatal Psychiatrist rather than a general psychiatrist, as they are specialised in supporting mum's and mum's to be, and they know most about medication, and whether they are OK to take in pregnancy.

Many general psychiatrists and doctors don't always have accurate information for mum's, and some advise mum's to come off all medication if planning a pregnancy, or if they are pregnant, and sometimes this isn't actually the best advice. A lot of medication (including a lot of anti psychotics and anti depressants) are safe to take during pregnancy.

If you haven't found it already APP do have a guide for planning a pregnancy if you are at risk of PP with a lot of information in there: app-network.org/what-is-pp/...

If you don't have access to a perinatal psychiatrist / perinatal mental health team, and you live in the UK, you can ask your GP / mental health team to refer you to the second opinion psychiatry service which is free for you, and your health authority, to access. Dr Ian Jones is one of the leading perinatal psychiatrists, and will be able to advise you, look over your notes, and will write to your care team to recommend what support you should receive. The link is here: app-network.org/what-is-pp/...

I hope all these links are helpful.
