Hi, I live in Wrexham, North Wales. I'm the regional rep for North Wales. My son is in uni in Swansea and I sometimes visit him although it takes over four hours to get there with the awful bendy roads! North Wales is so poor in terms of Perinatal Mental Health Care, I'm trying to make some contacts with local Perinatal mental health teams. Not sure what it's like in South Wales.

Maybe we can meet sometime after you have moved? We certainly need more people in Wales!

I've had a look re whether there are any specialised perinatal mental health teams in Wales and sorry to be the bearer of bad news, it's very minimal.

If you go to everyone's business website you can download a PDF of a map of England, Scotland and Wales and it gives details of any specialised perinatal care. Wales is nearly all coloured in 'red' which basically means there is no provision. There is also no MBU's. I do know there is a campaign about trying to improve support in Wales.

I will see if I can find some more information for you though and let you know. If I was you I would link up as soon as you move with your GP and see what support you can get through them. Or ask the team your are under now (if you are with anyone) to liaise with your new GP etc.

I really hope the move goes well, I know it is to move closer to your family which I'm sure would be a positive thing for you.

I'm still trying to find out more about professional perinatal mental health support in Wales for you, I've written to some people who may know more and will let you know as soon as I hear anything.

When I had a quick google I found a couple of things. In Cardiff there is a perinatal mental health team, I couldn't find any in Newport so wondered if Cardiff would cover Newport as it isn't too far away is it? (sorry my geography isn't good). I also did find this on netmums and thought it may be worth you making contact with them? it's a perinatal mental health support group saying it's starting on April 11th. I don't know if it's any good obviously, and it isn't specifically for PP, but it may be a good contact for you? netmums.com/se-wales/local/...

Ellie, thank you so much for the time you've spent looking into this - I really do appreciate it! I spoke to my team here and they've advised me to find out what GP I'll be under and they'll liaise with them to find out what support I'll have, which is a start. Cardiff is a bit far for me as I don't drive, but that support group may be helpful and might be a good way for me to meet other mums in similar situations in terms of depression, even if not PP.

We're hoping to move in April or May.

No problem at all. That's great to hear that the team you're with now will liaise with your new GP and sounds like they will try and ensure you are set you up under a team. I have to say my support after the MBU was the early intervention in psychosis team, so not perinatal mental health, but they were excellent.

Yes, that group looks good, at least something to try out!
