Hi! I went to the GI doctor today. He did not feel at this time I needed anymore scanning however he placed me on medication to help eliminate acid build up and also tested me for H-pylori.

I am very very very nervous! I don't know how I will react if it is positive.

Hi Betha,

I hope your doctor told you that digestive issues are often a part of living with anxiety.

My doctor gave me this reference

Gastrointestinal (GI) disturbances commonly include symptoms of stomach pain, heartburn, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, and vomiting. When no medical cause for GI disturbances is found, they are often termed “functional GI symptoms.”

H-pylori is very common, in fact 1 in 3 people have it in their stomach but usually causes no problems. I believe the cure is a course of antibiotics for 2-3 weeks. In the scheme of things, nothing too drastic if the test returns a positive result.

As part of my mental health plan, I am working with a psychologist to reduce my anxiety levels Hopefully my GI problems, mainly constipation and heartburn will reduce or be gone altogether. I can only hope!

h pylori is easy to treat - and the treatment would be a course of anti-biotics and continuing with the PPIs that you have been prescribed.

Generally you shouldn't take PPIs for more than 4 or so months at a time as they can cause problems with absorbing nutrients from your food.

Hi Betha,

I had H Pylori and as others have said it's no big deal, just a course of antibiotics. Nothing to be nervous about.

Thank you everyone. Yes he seemed to be very relaxed about the whole thing. I have already had an internal ultrasound, complete enzyme check with CBC, and a CT scan with contrast of my abdomen and pelvic region.

So this is my next step! He thinks I have Disepsia
