Struggling badly the last few days, more so today, I have had some bad anxiety attacks because of not being able to breathe properly because of the heat, I suffer from Emphysema and ibs/diverticulitis as well as a few other health issues on top, because of burping/wind I find it effects my ability to breathe on times which of course brings on feelings of anxiety and panic,

I am on Lofrapramine because of long term depression and they have also given me some Diazapam (2mg) for emergencies (I was told maximum of 3 a day), I tend to be able to limit the Diazapam to having only one when I have an attack which normally isn't everyday, but just lately have had to use them for the last few days on the trot, I am starting to worry now as I need more and I know they are reluctant to give them out. Don't know how I'll cope if they refuse me

Sorry about the long post and moan, but I have no one to talk to as I live alone and as such don't get any close support

Hi doggie123 I have had breathing problems to the last couple of days because of the heat here in the UK.I have slight asthma usually doesn't bother me but past few days been feeling like can't get enough air.I to live on my own and it does make you feel anxious.I went to doctor today she checked my chest and said it was clear.but gave me prescription for steroid tablets and antibiotics and said to take if I started to cough up any green mucus.she said I should of been given steroid tablets to keep at home in case I get a bad chest.do you keep a emergency supply of steroid tablets and antibiotics at home ? She also said it can be anxiety.I did take a 2 mg of diazepam last night at bedtime to help me sleep I to am prescribed them as and when required and it did relax me and I slept for 7 hours good result as night before I couldn't sleep because of the heat.

Did you find the diazepam eased your breathing ? As anxiety can also make breathing a bit shallow.its a lot cooler tonight and hopefully will get a good sleep.do you have a ventolin spray ? I had 2 puffs of ventolin tonight and that has helped with my breathing. Don't worry about the diazepam if you explain to the doctor that you only take them when you really need to and you know that they are very addicitive but they really help you.they will give you some more I told them I had been taking mine more often after I lost my mum suddenly last Nov.and he said to reduce them gradually as I just stopped them and started to get very panicky.so we worked out how to reduce them over 3 weeks half a tablet morning and night first week then half tablet every afternoon for week then half every other night at bedtime.then I get a pack of 28 tablets every few months on regular basis.so if you explain to the doctor you are capable of taking them responsibly you want have a problem they also help with IBS as they relax stomachs muscles to.hope you get better soon and your not alone lots of nice people on here to help you.

I do have a Ventolin spray but it doesn't seem to help much, as the weather seems as if it's going to be cooler i'm going to try and get to the surgery in the morning, (it's a walk-in) and see if I can see the GP I prefer (the other GP doesn't have any sympathy at all, I think because I've only just given up smoking, 4 months now) plan to ask if I can have more Diazepam and if he will refer me for a lung function test at the hospital.
