Have been to see a GP today, he is referring me for CBT? Has anyone heard of this? He has also put me on a low dose of Prozac? Any info plz.

CBT is Cognitive , Behaviour Therapy

lots people on this site have had this or waiting , its like a kind of counselling

They usually get to no you the first couple of sessions ,so to get a picture of your life & how it has been & then they focus on ways to improve how you think , for example , turning negative thoughts to positives

It can be very helpful & teach you ways how to deal with all these thoughts & emotions we struggle with

Prozac is a anti depressant , again people have found this works well , it can take a few weeks before it does though

Well done going & dont worry about the CBT , its a good thing & i think you will really benefit from it :)

Fab thank you whywhy. I am quite positive about the CBT then, if this means I get help on dealing with my issue's.

Again, a little reluctant with the prozac, but I have to try, and seeing as it's a low dose I'm really going to try and tell my brain it won't harm me. I am quite lucky as from Friday my husband has 2wks off work so I will feel a lot safer!

CBT stands for cognitive behaviour therapy. I've had it a few times, it is sort of retraining of your thoughts. It challenges what you think and try's to make them rational. It can give you some good tools to use.

I'm having it now on health anxieties, I hope that has helped you a little bit.

Thank you winter. I am looking forward to the CBT, hoping it won't be too much of a wait, I think GP said around a month. I think I need it as I feel no other way is helping long term.

You can get self help books from amazon that are cbt. ' overcoming panic and agoraphobia' is a good book. You have to work through it like a course. Xxx

It's quite a good book to flick through anyway. The cbt people will probably give you worksheets to do and it will probably cross over the two. I've done hundreds of worksheets! The is another book called ' mind over mood' which is also good, I got recommended it from the cbt people. Xxxx

Fluoxetine (also known by the tradenames Prozac, Sarafem, and Fontex, among others) is an antidepressant of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class. Fluoxetine was first documented in 1974 by scientists from Eli Lilly and Company.[1] It was presented to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in February 1977, with Eli Lilly receiving final approval to market the drug in December 1987. Fluoxetine went off-patent in August 2001.[2]

Fluoxetine is approved for the treatment of major depression (including pediatric depression), obsessive-compulsive disorder (in both adult and pediatric populations), bulimia nervosa, panic disorder and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.[3] In addition, fluoxetine is used to treat trichotillomania if cognitive behaviour therapy is unsuccessful.[4] In combination with olanzapine it is known as Symbyax.

CBT stands for cognitive behaviour therapy. It teaches you how to think differently and how to work out your problems. It is quite a new technique, I had my first session today. It looks at the way health anxiety affects you, why we constantly seek reassurance and why it very rarely works. Why we don't believe the doctors. Hope this has helped

Hi Holly thank you! How did you find your first session? I am quite looking forward to it now I have had people recommend it.

Quite good. Have got to keep a diary about my thoughts and feelings. Today I can seek reassurance and look on the Internet, but the rest of the week I have to abstain. I have to score between 1 and a 100 how my anxiety is affectin me. She says I will feel worse before I get better

Really struggling at the moment because I can't google my symptoms or seek reassurance from my family. They said this would happen

Hi Holly , you should have done a post saying how you feel today , I have just spotted this in the News Feed

Please love , try not to google your symptoms , you will not feel any better for it as if you are feeling low you will focus on the worst answer you spot on there

Maybe if you feel up to it , do a post explaining your fears & unlike your family at the moment , these lovely people on here will try & reassure you , will be better the google ;)

I was on Prozac and it made me quite manic

Made me quite elated, excitable and full of energy. People at work noticed the difference. It may affect you differently. They call it the happy tablet

Sounds like you've seen a great doctor, as others have said CBT is cognitive behavioural therpy. Which is probably the best treatment for anxiety, and the meds will helpto take the edge off while you learn to cope on your own. In my opinion that is the best course of treatment. CBT wont work over night, as you have to change the way you think which anixey suffers have developed as a method of protecting themselves. Good luck! I'm sure you will fine . you've had the best start.

Thanks mrssmurf. I'm really looking forward to getting started. I think it may be tough, but I think it's something I need more than anything. I'm warming to my doctor slowly. He's new and I don't like new if you get me.
