Hi , I thought I’d post on here as I’m struggling to calm mind, unfortunately I broke my ankle on New Year’s Day and had it scanned at the hospital and need surgery next week. My brain is telling me I’m gonna die during the surgery . Or I’ll get a blood clot or something crazy like that. I suffer with health anxiety for the past 5 years and every little pain I feel instantly triggers these thoughts of dying. And this accident and surgery has me scared really scared.
If anyone can relate and help me feel less scared I’d appreciate it a lot.
Many thanks Luke

surgery was a successful one. Got lots of pain but nothing happens during the surgery which I was so worried about. Thank you for the support mean so much x
Hi agro, yeah I felt the support today most definitely!
Yeah start physical therapy in 2 weeks time!. For now they have asked me to do some little stretches and also go up and down the stairs once a day. Will be very cautious as I want this to heal best as possible.
I have health anxiety too but I don't think I get it in the same way. No one can feel things the same way you do, but I do know how scary health anxiety can be. My anxiety provides me with a huge selection of different symptoms sometimes and once Ivsuccessfully rationalised one lot, something different pops up. If I can think back and think "oh heck I've felt like this before and I'm still here" that sometimes helps.Do you use any breathing techniques when you feel like this?
I do 7 11 breathing. Breathe in for count of 7 out for count of 11. The longer out breath encourages the parasympathetic nervous system, the calming bit of us.
