I go through something similar to what your talking about I think. Last month I had to have an old filling/cavity replaced. It was impossible for me to control my tongue. The more I tried to control my tongue and keep it out of the dentist way, the more she asked me to relax my tongue. My entire body starting trembling and the dentist told me she didn't know if she could continue on due to my trembling causing the chair to move. We did manage to get it done, however I now seem to have developed TMJ. I probably had it before this happened but now it's hard to open my jaw wide and I now have ear pain. My doctor says I should go to physical therapy. 😞
