Apixaban
Are you having at least annual blood checks? It is possible that the medication has depleted your vitamin D or Folic acid or other important blood component, causing the cramps. Perhaps ask your GP to check your bloods?
I’m on Apixaban although I really want to go back on Warfarin!! But I too get cramps but then I’m not certain it’s the tablets really. Hope you get sorted.
This is an interesting Post. I have been taking Apixaban for quite some years and for a long time have suffered from "dead" hands and aching joints. I awake during the night and my hands feel as if they have swollen to twice the normal size (they haven't) and are numb. I have to shake them before they start to feel normal. Never even thought this may be due to Apixaban - I had been thinking it was more a symptom of the Statin I take. I have yearly blood tests and nothing untoward has been picked up. However, as I have mentioned previously in "Replies", before my last blood test appointment I researched on NICE all the drugs I take and the testing regime NICE recommends. As a result when I attended the Surgery and asked the Nurse Practitioner if I was being tested for something listed by NICE, I was informed that the GP hadn't put it on the list! She emailed him and he agreed to add it.She also advised that the Surgery will not be re-opening for appointments. From now on it is a Nurse Practitioner Led Service with the Receptionists fielding the telephone calls. No-one is allowed into the Surgery unless they have been "invited" by a staff member (Notice to this effect on the door). Someone - who knows who - will decide whether or not an illness can be dealt with via a telephone call from a N.P. / a telephone call from a GP, or an appointment with a N.P. Scandalous.
Thank you . I can’t get appointments either. I know we all rely on our NHS and work for them. I work through pain, however just someone to look at my clots in veins, one leg mauve , the other white . I know, there are people far worse than me . But does get me down . Thank you for replies
Same at our surgery they do phone appointments and they invite you into the surgery if they need to see you for anything.
You have to wait outside until they invite you in as there's no waiting room there now.
Both my husband and I take magnesium citrate and this has been very good remedy for night cramps. My husband takes Apixaban but had cramps before taking this. Also very important to keep hydrated to prevent cramps. My husband suffered horrible leg cramps before taking magnesium and upping his water intake. Worth a try.
Hi had a DVT 2 years ago and take Apixaban 2.5mg twice a day, my leg does cramp up in the calf and the skin feels occasionally almost sunburned in the ankle area, this is not all the time and tend to pain manage it with co codamol when it flares up. I have read Low iron can give these or similar symptoms so I’m trying iron supplement at the moment ?
I've been on apixiban for several years now, I have no new cramping.
