Covid jab whilst on warfarin

Hi,

I am on lifelong warfarin for an avr. I've recently had my covid jab with no ill effects afterwards. At time of jab you are asked health questions and if your on blood thinners. You are asked when last Inr reading was and what it was. There are doctors on hand if needed.

Great set up. I had Pfizer vaccine and would really urge people to have it if they can, there's nothing to it just peace of mind in these testing times. Don't take notice of social media etc. Get the facts from the NHS.

Hello, hope it all goes well for you.

I'm on Warfarin and other medications. I had the AstraZeneca first jab last Saturday (7 days ago). I slept for fifteen hours afterwards. I woke and staggered about, confused, persistent headache, with phlegm coming up, coughing, sneezing and generally feeling proper poorly. Why this is I do not know, but it frightened me at the time.

I'm still not right now. On a lot of medications, though, so this may be the reason.

I wanted to report the side-effects, but could not get through to the doctor's surgery on the phone, or email. Being partially deaf, the recorded messages were frustrating, but the poor devils seem so very busy.

I had it done at home, being disabled, and in lockdown.

Would you know if the second vaccine will be the same one as the first, please?

I genuinely am not looking forward to another AstraZeneca one.

Take care, all the best. Thank you.

Hi,I'm on lots of meds too. So sorry to hear of your after effects, hope you feel better soon

I would have thought they would have checked for any problems with having the AZ vaccine against your meds and done a follow up from docs.. That's what mine do with housebound patients. I had the Pfizer with no after effects though that depends with each individual. I'm not sure with second dose, try to speak to doctor. Wishing you all the best.

I'm so glad you had the Pfizer vaccine. Are you due for your second, or have you had it yet?

I think the doctors are struggling all-around at the moment.

The lovely nurses who 'did me' said they have no control over which vaccine they use. Shame!

Thanks for the encouragement. much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, not due for second one yet. I was told that too, they get the vaccines dropped off in morning and use whichever they get. They tend to be using AZ for housebound patients because of its viability and being able to be stored in a domestic fridge. My housebound mother in law who is on loads of meds incl. blood thinners had the AZ with no after effects at all. That's why I think it must depend on on your body make up. Take care and stay safe x
