I am not medically trained but I was told that the length of time before and after a procedure depends on whether your kidneys work well (because the kidneys eliminate the drug from your system); what the bleeding risk is during and after the procedure and what the risks are to you when you are not fully anticoagulated (some people have higher risk factors for having a dvt for example if they have a clotting disease).
Having said that, 5 days does seem rather a long time doesn’t it and you might like to ask whether you will need Heparin injections after the surgery until you can start the Edoxaban again.
Page three on this document is really informative.:
I had to come off sintrom (like warfarin) for 10 days before a blood test for genetic causes of DVT - had to do heparin injections instead. Think it's also routine to come off them before surgery (but don't know anything about edoxaban so apologies if doesn't apply to all blood thinners!)
I must be learning I almost understand what you say. Each person on here seems to have a different set of complicated medical conditions and treatments!
