My mum had hospitalised diagnose PE , She is now taking Warfarin INR stable 2.6

Is She allowed to travel by plane like long journey 8 hours then another 9 hours flight? She was just Dx this PE for a month now.

G'day myrapapa,

I don't know what some of your abbreviations are so will only comment in respect of my medical conditions and age. I'm 70, have Atrial Fib, high blood pressure - I'm on Warfarin (Bisoprolol, Ramipril and Simvastatin), I self test (with my own Coaguchek XS device) and occasionally change my own doses. I travel to Australia so the first leg of my journey is between 10 and 12 and half hours and the second leg is 9 hours. I take out travel insurance ( no problems there and declare my medical conditions). So if I were your Mum I'd get a letter from my GP stating what her medication is and what her medical conditions are. Get clearance also from GP that she can fly. That should overcome possible issues with any immigration authorities at any destinations. Take enough medication in hand baggage for use in flight and put the rest in checked in (hold) baggage. Also get a pair of flight socks and wear them in flight - a worthwhile buy if prone to DVT et al. In flight drink plenty (not alcohol) and get up and frequently move around the cabin while in flight. While seated in flight make sure she does plenty of exercises to keep circulation in shape. Unless she has a medical condition which makes her unable to fly under any circumstances the only limiting factor is whether she wants to go on the flight or not - down to her.

Enjoy the flight

hi myrapapa

plenty of water so she doesn't get dehydrated. even tho ive just come off warfarin (after 18 months) from a PE, i was still advised if i go on a long flight like uve suggested that the doc will prescribe clexane(injection to the stomach) which is suppose to be better than just having the tablets, you still take the tablets on the other days, and flight socks are a must, i still occasionally still wear 1 on my leg that still swells sometimes, and keep moving and legf exercises are a must. good luck
