Flu Jab

Its that time of year for our flu injection. This year our pharmacist is doing them, but wouldn't give me one as I am taking Warfarin. He says it has to be done in a doctors surgery.

It wasn't as if he was injecting into an artery. Its just a pin prick in my arm

Why.

Hi gizmomaven, what an interesting one! I have been on Warfarin for 16 years and find that we anticoagulated folk tend to be encouraged to get a flu jab as for many of us the flu can be quite serious due to the cause of our Warfarin. I have had the jab at the GP surgery, the Pharmacist and the works medical room by a nurse without ever being discouraged so I am not sure what is motivating your pharmacist. Whatever you do though don't stop getting flu jabs!

All the best

He says its the law. Is he giving me a story

in reply to gizmomaven

Could be but maybe the law has changed? Why argue; just get one somewhere else then ask another Pharmacist.

I have experienced this twice in different areas . The pharmacist in lancashire said that if I had an allergic reaction the adrenalin he would have to give me would affect my heart rhythm so I had to be in a doctor's surgery so help was at hand. I dutifully went to the surgery. The nurse stuck the needle in before I could even say I was on warfarin and sent me on my way about 10 seconds afterwards so had no time to see if I was going have any reaction. Bizzare! X

Hi assuming that you speak about the FLU jab, I went to my GP and was given the Flu jab and in the other arm the SHINGLES jab, next day and the day after, my ECG was horrific, the Consultant said it was a mess, but all Doctors say this was not the jabs that caused this, after reading your article I am wondering if I was correct or I was wrong to think it was caused by the jabs?

I too have had the same replies at three different pharmacies. However after talking to my GP, I was told that I don't really need one . I have had a DVT and four pulmonary embolisms so thought I would benefit from flu jab .. Think I will try to get one again this year. . Heres hoping im successful !!!
