Sports have been always my passion all my life. As a young athlete after trying different sports; I felt in love with running and later with Triathlons.
During College , I was part of the track and field team for more than 4 years. After college, I competed in triathlons for long time. I was able to finish the Ironman in Clermont FL USA.
In College hat one point I started feeling terrible mentally and later physically. I didn’t know what I had..why too much pain ? , why was so hard to express my internal pain ? I was not aware at all what was wrong with me. That time was around latest 80,s to early 90 .. I didn’t have not much information about mental health. I had what I know now severe debilitating anxiety disorder and depression; and bipolar II. I reach a point where I couldn’t function. I hospitalized and also had two electroshock sessions. I have been in medications after that until now. I’m more balance but I have a lot of bad days; but I need to be strong and faith. I’m full medicated and therapy two time a more for long time and it help; Anxiety still my worse enemy.
I think is extremely important to invest more time, money and research in mental help and this is why I'm raising money for Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and any donation will help make an impact.
I’m doing open water swimming events during all year around USA because after years I learn how also how much sports in combination with medication and therapy help so much all of us that suffer of anxiety and depression or any mental disorders.
I which I could raise money running marathons or other activities but because an accident injuries in 2018 , I’m not able to run or perform high impact sports. Swimming is been my best therapy physically and mentally for me now.
Sincerely,
Luis M Crespo
