Florinef Dosage

For those that require adrenal hormone replacement such as Hydrocortisone, Florinef and DHEA (I know most Endocrinologist do not even mention DHEA to their patients and say it unnecessary, as one does not need it to 'live', even though it is the most most abundant hormone in the human body, and studies show a significant improvement in overall wellbeing and energy with supplementation, which is another topic of discussion..)

My question is about Florinef dosages. I had been on .1 for years, since I was 16, and I am not 41. For a lot of my life, and especially more recently I am always thirsty, and feel no matter how much water I consume, I never feel completely satisfied. My blood pressure is most often in a good range, and my electrolyte blood panel is normal. I have been reading that excessive thirst can be experienced if one's Florinef dose is too low, and even it is too high, which can be difficult to regulate. I did a test today, and increased my Florinef dose to .15/day which one pill and a half. I feel like it has helped my excessive thirst a little bit. I imagine as we age, and for other various reasons, our medication requirements can change. My question to others is, what is your normal daily dose and have you had to change it over the years, and also if you experience excessive thirst? I will also ask if others are constantly hungry? I am a nutritionist, so I eat well, however I find I require myself to eat many small meals per day. I do not like to eat until I am stuffed, and only eat until I feel like my hunger has dissipated, however after I eat, I feel as though within 1-2 hours at the most, I am quite hungry again. I have even experimented and ate until I was completely stuffed, and I was still hungry in about the same time afterwards if I were to eat a smaller meal. If I ate this way each time every 1-2 hours I would be significantly overweight! I also must eat before bed or cannot sleep, and get up at least 1-2 per night to eat as I feel nauseous. I do however only eat and require something small like a container of applesauce. Also, in the morning, I must eat when I take the Hydrocortisone around 5AM (which is around when I wake up feeling terrible with low hormone levels and also being starving), and let's say I go back to sleep and wake up at 8AM, I am again very nauseous, needing to eat. Does anyone else experience this as well?

Hey. I’m on steroid replacement for Addision’s disease, and take 0.15 mg fludrocortisone (one and a half pills) each morning.

I’ve been on that dose for a long time now; I remember being asked to trial 0.2 mg for a while, but I think it affected my plasma renin levels so I came back down to 0.15 mg. The problem is, in biochemistry, everything is linked to everything else! My memory of it all is very sketchy, but I know that the fludrocortisone replacement therapy is used to control salt balance as well as blood pressure, so perhaps the thirst is linked to the fludrocortisone dose…? I’m really not sure though. I’ve read other people with Addision’s do watch their fluid intake more than I do, for instance drinking much more in the heat because of the salts.

As you say, things do change as we age, so maybe your dose does need a tweak – hopefully you have an endocrinologist that you can discuss it all with at some point?

Stopped taking Fludrocortisone. Didn't notice any benefit of taking it for years and stopped like 6 months ago. Would cause fluid retention for me. Didn't help with dizziness at all. Interested in DHEA and possibly Pregnenolone.
