Gay and AMN

My question is - I'm gay with ALD, how many more like me can there be? Or am I the only homosexual - an adrenomyeloneuropath in the entire eight billion human population?

Why would you assume that you’re the only gay person with AMN? It’s not something that people disclose, as it’s really not relevant to anything in regards to seeking and sharing help. I’m confused why you’re making this vast assumption.

For this reason, I feel some kind of exclusivity.

I like brunettes, and oddly enough, every girlfriend I have ever had was a virgo (brunette), and my wife, and my son, and my mother and sister-in-law.

Hahaha, I’m a brunette, a Virgo and I’ve got AMN. BOOM!! 🤣

KazzyALD , you are talking my language now.

Life goes on, I am not made of stone. The heart wants what the heart wants.

I am not a big believer in astrology, but I am Aquarius, and so are my closest male friends. All shocking examples of hetrosexual men.

But again, how can you assume? And in your eyes, why does it matter when we’re looking for help with a disease process?

I'm gay. Like AMN, you're not alone. And we are all not alone. But I never identify myself exclusively as gay. Nor do I with AMN.

I doubt you'll get much traction on this thread. Personally, I believe everything is relevant when it comes to the progression of this disease.

It's only by the grace of God that my onset was so late in my life, but it has hit me worse than my brother, who is older and has much milder symptoms.

Different countries, different climates, food, lifestyles, et al.

Being gay ain't a recognised medical condition (anymore in any decent country), and sexuality is a spectrum.

Then again, and I hesitate to post this, but I will. There has been scientific studies on physical characteristics between gay and straight people. You can't really trust these things, and the sample sizes are small, but here we go:

Facial Structure Predicts Sexual Orientation in Both Men and Women

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/255...

It's a short read, all test subjects were white.

And here is another one:

Left-handedness in homosexual men and women

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/236...

Another short read, and here is an interesting quote:

"These results suggest that homosexual orientation has a neurobiological component possibly related to hemispheric functional asymmetry. The results are consistent with previous reports that

(1) prenatal neuroendocrine events are a factor in the development of human sexual orientation and functional brain asymmetries,

(2) the mechanisms associated with homosexual orientation and related neuropsychological characteristics are different between the sexes, i.e. elevated levels of prenatal sex hormones in women and decreased levels in men."

All the above, I neither know, nor care. Being a man of the world, I know gay men and women, trans people, bisexuals, on and on. You may be onto something, frankly I think one day you could throw everything into the correct AI algorithm and it'd be a good predictor of disease onset/symptoms/whatever.

And I read years ago when I was reading about left-handedness being related to artistic leanings. Paul McCartney, Michelangelo, Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent van Gogh, Jimi Hendrix were/are sinistrists. Then again, more artists are right-handed.

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/206...

But, here is the quote:

"In the scientific literature left-handedness has been related to health disorders (spine deformities, immunological disorders, migraine, neurosis, depressive psychosis, schizophrenia, insomnia, homosexuality, diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, sleep apnea, enuresis nocturna and Down Syndrome), developmental disorders (autism, dislexia and stuttering) and traumatism."

Blimey! But you can count me in for some of those symptoms, and I am right-handed.

A lot of data, and I know if I mentioned any of it to my neurologist (who really knows his stuff), I'd just a blank stare in return.

None of the above has any relation to AMN at all. I'll wager the percentage of gay people with AMN is the same for the general population.

But it is all food for thought. We talk a lot about symptoms here on AMNEasier. Not so much environmental/social/lifestyle/and now sexual orientation.

Yes, for what it's worth I'm gay as well! As has been said above, it's not something that will necessarily come up in conversation over the forum.
