The parents of a severely ill baby who believe he should be taken to the US for alternative medical therapy have made an emergency appeal.

Have any of you been following this?

Heartbreaking stuff, maybe related to us.

I'd never heard of nucleoside bypass therapy. Googled it, nothing.

Personally, I think the child should receive the treatment.

I am usually a pro-choice euthanasia supporter. In this case, with common sense, Charlie Gard's parents should have been able to seek alternative treatments for him as soon as they had received the fund. The hospital +court decision were so wrong in so many ways

1. they did not know how to save Charlie did not mean it was "impossible"

2. the parents were not asking the hospital for money

3. why couldn't the parents take Charlie home if the hospital thought he was to die anyway

The parents should never have been dragged through this court circus.

I had had first hand experience of being ridiculed in a work meeting to suggest that an "impossible" problem was possible to solve. In the end I did solve the problem, using my own time.

It's common for people to think something cannot be done because they themselves are unable to work out the logic. e.g. There was an impressive card game to trick the mind, someone told me how scared she was as it was "real" magic. When I explained it to her how it worked, it was just a simple trick with an impressive presentation.

I'm not discussing Charlie's illness, but it should not be up to the hospital or the European court to decide (it's not their child). This is just heartbreaking indeed, being put through Hell and for what.

Let's hope the parents could learn to move on soon and have healthy siblings for little Charlie.

The World would have been a happier place if the authoritarians (e.g. politicians/ experts) wouldn't impose on others with their limited intelligence.
