These statements have been made for a long time. None of these supplements help my mother, who died with Alzheimer's in 1980. For a brief time, they had a positive effect on my husband, who had Alzheimer's and died under hospice care.

Aristotle13 - I don't know the answer to your question but I do have experience of having significant cognitive improvement/recovery after Vitamin B12 as hydroxy cobalamin intra muscular injections. I have absorption issues, and 'brain fog' associated with an autoimmune condition.

I say 'significant' - I was doing a daily crossword puzzle before and after starting B12. (A quick crossword). Before - I was unable to finish approx 1/5 of puzzle. After, all of it, in 30-40 minutes. A serum test did not detect my B12 deficiency, a neurologist ordered a tissue level test and it was revealed. It took 3-4 days for this improvement after the shot. It takes that long for the body to convert the hydroxy. In another form, more expensive, methylcobalamin is in a form which is assimilated without conversion.

I am wondering if a year on from your post, you have any further discoveries re B vitamins and cognitive functioning yourself?

I ask you in particular because you have been very helpful to me on another site in managing bone loss through diet, exercise and supplement. Thank you for this.
