What is causing my hair loss?

Hi everyone, I’m a 17 year old female and for the past year I’ve been noticing gradual hair loss all over my scalp. My pony tail has significantly shrunk to the point where I no longer tie my hair up. This is also due to having a receding hairline, but the hair loss has only made it worse. The hair loss isn’t extremely noticeable until you feel my hair and compare it to how it used to be. My hair gets greasy very easily (nearly every morning) so I used to wash it everyday, but now I try to limit myself and use herbal shampoos but I’m not seeing a difference. When I wake up I get a sensation that my hair is being slightly pulled on, I don’t know whether this is a result of the way I sleep, but I also get this same feeling when I put oil in my hair. My scalp feels sensitive, especially towards the front. Sometimes, very rarely, I get a burning sensation in my scalp too or it feels slightly itchy, but I don’t have dandruff. I have no idea what kind of hair loss could this be, or is it just a result of over shampooing, colouring and bleaching my hair, and using too much heat on it? I have stopped all of this all together. I’ve been to a doctor before but they didn’t seem to think anything of it, but I know for sure this cannot be normal.

It is NOT normal. I also got a burning/itching sensation in patches of my scalp that would keep me up at night, the burning feeling was so intense . I would then loose the hair in the spot that had the sensations. Then the burning would move to another spot and after 3 or 4 week, that hair would fall out.

I suggest that if you have significant hair loss in even one of the burning tingling spots, you should see another doctor who listens to your concern. They can do fine needle injections into those areas of some type steroid to stimulate growth. Find a doctor that believes you and offers a possible solution, because you are young and hair usually comes back on younger people.

Best of luck

Keep going to your gp it took me 3 years to get a diagnosis and biopsy done sadly they couldn't or wouldn't offer me anything. It took a long time for a doctor to take me seriously keep going keep talking to them and stay strong !!!!
