Hi, I have had the electro cardioversion. We are all different. Since I had that done, I have had an ablation and a Flecanaide infusion. I take meds now to control my AF.

I felt a lot better after the cardioversion. I would recommend it, but that is your choice and also depends on how AF is affecting you. There is also a risk, like with all procedures. Good luck.

I had a hole in my heart. Went into AF during the procedure to close it. They could not get it to stop with meds so they had to shock me. I have had AF since. Am medicated and am looking for a new doctor. Mainly because he does not seem to think this is a big deal. There has been no mention of any further treatment for me other then I should avoid all stimulants and get in better shape. Wish I could help but I'm relatively new to all this even though it's been 5 years.

Kitty6502, I was cardioverted 1 time. What exactly are you asking? Yes it did work. During one AF attack they could not bring me back into NSR with drugs so they shocked my heart to do it and it did work. BUT you ask if you need to keep having it done? Electrical Shock (Cardioversion) is to used to bring you out of AF (and many other heart conditions) and back into NSR. It is not meant to keep you from having AF again.

I am told with each visit to the ER that if I don't go back into NSR on my own (Via Meds) they will Cardiovert me. My self, I did not like it and would not choose to do it again (But I also hate the static shocks when I am walking in my house).

Not what you're looking for?
