Brief summary

I am/was a runner

‘Palpitations’ all through menopause, particularly at night.

First definite episode of AF Feb 2020, then a few more over the next few years. Paid to see a sports cardiologist who took me onto his NHS list and referred me to an EP. 3 episodes over 5 weeks last Oct/Nov prompted me to accept cancellation on 2nd December. Pulse field ablation at St George’s in London. They isolated pulmonary veins. At 3 month follow up EP advised to push myself. I have been running (but reduced intensity & volume) lifting weights and also climbing, a new thing for me. Last week we went to Greece and my son took me up this 175m cliff. I always wear a Frontier X device when doing activities and I had a few ectopics which I didn’t notice but really, can’t complain at all about the outcome! I realise it may come back at some point but making the most of it for now.

OK so you have explained that you are totally mad but it takes all sorts LOL 😂 Long may your heart stay stable. Mine would have stopped and left home if I went near a cliff like that.

Good news is always welcome here.

Fantastic, well done, you look amazing!

I have to say you will never, ever convince me to even try climbing, I’ve done all sorts of activities and loved sailing and diving but going up hills - NEVER!

I used to think I didn’t like heights. Turns out I can stand them after all.

Hi,

Those last few episodes were weird. Previously, my episodes had always started in the day and tended to finish on waking. I definitely don’t snore , but maybe something was going on. Just before they started, my heart rate dropped to about 38. It doesn’t do that now.

You’re braver than me.! I don’t like heights, so couldn’t do that. We all hope our ablation keeps our AFib away, so 🤞🤞🤞. Been 19 months since mine. It would be great for someone to find a guaranteed cure for AFib wouldn’t it.

That's the spirit!

I had an ablation in Sept 2023 and ran the Boston Marathon in April 2024. My cardiologist was a Boston Marathon veteran and said I would be fine. He gave me a check up a week before the race and said go for it, push as hard as you want. He also mentioned that the absolute best place to have a heart attack, other than a hospital, is on a marathon course, you will be scooped up pretty fast.

Brilliant. I won’t be doing any more marathons but climbing is a good alternative thrill.
