Fexofenadine and AF

Used to take Fexofenadine for Hay fever before being diagnosed with Atrial fibrillation. Seems you can't take Fexofenadine if you suffer from AF. What do others with AF take for Hay fever this time of the year?

Hello,

Thank you for your post.

With taking any new medications, it is important to speak with your doctor or perhaps your pharmacist about the safest medication to take alongside your AF and any existing medications, to ensure there are not any interactions or effects. They will be able to advise you on an individual basis and provide appropriate guidance.

I do hope you are able to speak with them and find the best medication for you.

If you would like any support, please do reach out to our dedicated Patient Services Team via Patient Helpline or via email, please visit: heartrhythmalliance.org/afa...

Kind regards,

I have used Fexofenadine for 20 years with PAF. No Cardiologist has ever questioned this. There is no evidence of Fexo affecting AF and it particular it does not lengthen the QT interval.

Suggest you speak to a good Pharmacist!

I take Fexofenadine as well as AF medications, never been questioned by GP or cardiologist.

I took Fexofenadine for 14 years with no issues. 3 years ago my anticoagulant was changed to Apixaban and I started getting dizziness and severe headaches whenever I took a Fexofenadine. Tried Loratidine, same effect. I now take cetirizine, which works well and no issues.

Wow, am really shocked to hear that as I am taking 120 mg twice daily to enable me to tolerate some of my other medications. My GP and Cardiologist have never suggested it was contraindicated. Why were you told not to take it?
